Katie, an east bay local, opened her first scoop shop, "I Scream Donuts," in April 2019, buying and selling ice cream while learning about the ice cream business. Less than a year later, the bay area came to a standstill as did the rest of the world, and katie temporarily closed the business. She knew she would no longer be able to buy ice cream during the pandemic, and the survival of her ice cream shop would depend on her learning to make her own ice cream. During the initial months of the pandemic, she studied ice cream making methods and researched machines, and in June 2020 she took a leap of faith in a time of uncertainty to invest in a batch freezer. And thus, her brand "The East Bay Ice cream company," was born. katie improved her space during lock downs, and built a clean room in the back of the scoop shop for wholesale production. She experimented tirelessly to develop a recipe to sell in the scoop shop, while learning how to make adjustments so she could make custom ice cream for wholesale clients based on their specific needs. Katie originally opened her shop because she loved ice cream. She decided to start her own brand so she could share that love with the whole east bay :)
